Artist Bio

Maxine Sarfo is an African-American visual artist studying and peer tutoring in the digital media art field in order to find more ways to develop and share her narratives through 2-dimensional illustrations and animations. Maxine is currently publishing a web comic as well as expanding her collection of illustrations and designs for commercialization. Maxine hopes to complete multiple web comic series and then bring them to the big screen. Either through her own endeavors as an animator, or the entertainment industry. Maxine’s illustrations have been accepted into multiple juried exhibitions, such as the 20th and 21st Annual 2020 High School Regional Juried Art Exhibitions at the Opalka Gallery, Albany Center Gallery, in addition to Albany High School Art Shows. Besides surviving late nights glaring at computer screens, Maxine finds comfort in drowning herself in the universes within books and episodic media.

Artist Statement

In my work, the creation of 2D characters and atmospheres work in tandem with my passion for narratives, and the connections one feels towards characters in books, manga, and animations. The act of storytelling using visual art inspires me to create digital illustrations and web comics in order to touch my own audience, and entertain them with humor and relatability. In the future, my goal is to create impressive animations with those same intentions.
